How I make a Digital Travel Journal

Making a personal digital journal is easy and fun! Here is how I made a digital travel journal to prepare for my trip.

Many people write travel journals. My bookshelf is full of travel journals that I used to write every time I travel. I have been thinking a lot about how to put all this travel information in one place. Today, in this post, I would like to share with you the behind-the-scenes process of creating a digital journal as a way to solve these concerns.

What is a digital travel journal?

A travel journal means keeping your feelings and memories of another country or region. In the same format as a physical travel journal, a digital version of a travel journal is where all these documents are digitized and stored in one place digitally.

Use your tablet, Apple Pencil, and stylus to write, and place photos, stickers, and sketches. In my case, I paste the ticket or photo onto the journal page and write my experience. It is so much fun and organizes my thoughts and memories. I can also decorate the page by drag-and-drop with digital stickers that can be used together.

Why do we love digital journals?

  1. Wherever you go, you can always be with them.

  2. You can easily insert photos right away (no need to print them out).

  3. You can decorate the page in any layout you want.

  4. Even if you make a mistake, you can go back to the previous step and decorate it again. (It can be solved with the Undo button)

  5. You can add as many pages as you want and add them wherever you need them.

  6. Synchronized so you can back up from anywhere.

  7. Add quick notes on the go with your mobile phone.

As most of you who like journals already agree, there are many advantages and reasons for writing a travel journal. I explained it in detail in my last post, so please read it.

Now, shall I explain the process of creating a travel journal?

How to create a digital travel journal

As you all know, creating a product that combines a realistic feel and digital function is important in making my digital planner or journal. This is the most creative and exciting time for me.

Tools needed for the production process

  1. Procreate or Photoshop

  2. Keynote app or any other publishing program

  3. The photos you like to use in your travel journal design

Journal cover page design.

I came up with this travel journal, first decided on a color that gives inspiration, and researched and found the journal cover photos I liked. I made my own travel journal cover by adding some editing with Procreate here.

Decide what content want to add on the first page of the Travel Journal

After I created a cover page, I decided which sections were needed for the next spread. I called it the front page. This page consists of the main menu section, which links to the sections you need with ease. I’ve included a link to these contents to include the plan, budget, and schedule in one place.

Travel bucket list, map( the place I’ve been to), tickets and postcard collections, and travel budget in a pocket with symbolic images. On the right page tab, we have organized the travel plan and necessary lists, itinerary, and daily journal sections.

To create page spreads in Procreate

I textured it with a soft leather-textured brush with Procreate and finished with stitches.

Add a paper texture page spread, and I adjusted it to fit the frame of the second-page spread

Export them as JPG files and save them to Camera Roll

You will need

  1. Travel Journal cover spread

  2. Frontpage spread

  3. The main page spread with textured paper

Brint them to the Keynote app

Use the page spreads to arrange the page slice that you want.

And design the page layout on each master slice.

Once all page layouts are designed, get out of the master slice and arrange the passes in order.

Hyperlink to designation pages on the KeyNote App

For quick links to important pages, I used a hyperlink from the first spread. For easier navigation, we’ve attached a link to the Travel Charm so you can go back to the first page.

To add hyperlinks to pages

After adding sections hyperlink on the master slice, get out of the master slice. You can add some links to what you want to add. I added the links for the itinerary and daily log journal page here so easily got to each trip journal page. Also, I added a paper clip to re-direct to the upper level of the page from journal pages.

To make note widgets and digital stickers

I love using digital stickers and note widgets to decorate the journal and planner. So I made a sticker board and collected all travel stickers to use on journaling pages.
